All Terrain Vehicles For Fun and Work

The first all-terrain vehicle had six wheels instead of four. It was developed sometime during 1950s in Japan primarily to combat its mountainous topography and isolated rugged regions. Particularly during spring when the ice thaws and rivers would gain intensity, mountain roads and non-maintained paths are often impassable with contemporary vehicles. In addition, these early all-terrain vehicle became popular in rural areas where the means to go over rough terrain in the absence of roads is quite frequent and considered necessary.

Off Roading. Off roading has become one of the most popular past times for the male gender, not saying there aren’t a few of the female species that like to get behind the wheel and let loose, but when you think of off roading you see the more macho types out there pushing the limits of their sports vehicles to the absolute limit, wanting to see if they can make it up a steep embankment, through huge mud bogs, up sheer climbs and they can because they have the right tires for the job.

Nascar drivers use slicks which are tires that are devoid of any tread at all, this helps their speed, dirt bikers use knobby tires to help grip the dirt and prevent skidding and sliding and they are pretty useful in muddy situations. ATV drivers use them because they handle some of the roughest terrain there is. Ordinary car tires could not provide the stability or safety to keep these types of vehicles upright.

Off road tires come in two sizes, 20 inch rims and 22 inch rims. Treads range from knobby to slick. Which tread you use is determined by the vehicle and the surface you will be driving on.

These off road tires are used for driving vehicles such as sport utility vehicles, all terrain vehicles through mud, snow, gravel and sand. They are also used on dirt bikes.
